Prayers of the People: The Conversion of Paul ~ For the 325th Convention of The Episcopal Church in Delaware, January 25, 2020

For Saturday, January 25, 2020, Readings: Acts 26:9-21, Psalm 67, Galatians 1:11-24Matthew 10:16-22
Composed by Christina Brennan Lee

I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun... I heard a voice saying to me... `Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me..I asked, `Who are you, Lord?' The Lord answered, `I am Jesus whom you are persecuting...I have appeared to you...to appoint you to serve...I will rescue you from your people and from the Gentiles -- to whom I am sending you to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light...that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'
[Acts 26:13b-18]

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide all the nations upon earth. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you...may God, our own God, give us his blessing. [Psalm 67:4-5, 6b]

I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. [Galatians 1:11-12]

Jesus said to the twelve, "See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. [Matthew 10:16]

Leader:  LET US, GOD’S PEOPLE, PRAY, for the Church and for the World

~ Most Merciful God, release us from the blindness we impose on our souls and open us to seek and answer the call of Your enduring grace. Grant us the courage to proclaim the Gospel by all we say and do, inviting others to share in Your Love and Hope.

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
RESPONSE:                  Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, guide the vision of all nations upon the earth and make known Your ways to all Rulers, Governors, and Kings, that they may judge with equity and legislate with compassion. We pray especially for: The President, Members of Congress, and our State and Local Legislators

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                       Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, lighten the darkness with Your saving health for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, and strengthen all who give them care. We now join our voices to pray aloud for those in need…

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                       Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, we praise You and give You thanks for the lives of those we love who have now risen into everlasting glory with You. We pray especially for…

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                       Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, awaken us to the urgency of the care and reverence needed for our fragile Earth, the gift of Your Creation, that we may rightly conserve, preserve, and sustain its resources and every life it contains.

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                       Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, ignite new passion within all those chosen to lead us in Your Church, lay and ordained, to embrace the transforming radiance of Your Word and intentionally welcome all we meet into Your Light and Life. We pray especially for: Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Kevin our Bishop; our Diocesan Priests and Deacons, members of Committees, Councils, Vestries, every Parish, and all who labor on for the good of Christ’s Church.

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                       Sanctify our Faith

~ Most Merciful God, we pause in this moment to offer You our other heartfelt thanksgivings, intercessions, petitions, and memorials, aloud or silently…

                                                       Jesus, Light of Heaven
                                                      Sanctify our Faith

The Celebrant adds: O God, Our Own, rouse us from indefinite faith into continual and conscious conversion. Bless us with the wisdom of serpents, the innocence of doves, and the inspiration of Paul, to connect our voices through Christ, as our sacred Conduit, to be the Earthly messengers of Your Salvation. We ask in the name of Jesus, our Living Redeemer; and the Holy Spirit, Your Divine Voice; who together with You are One God, now, forever, and always. Amen.

I offer a personal Thank You to our Bishop, Kevin Brown, for the opportunity and privilege to compose these prayers for the Liturgy of the Diocesan Convention this year.
